Surrender a Pet to Chatham County Animal Services
If you are a resident of Chatham County and can no longer care for your pet, you may surrender your dog or cat to Chatham County Animal Services (CCAS). Surrendering your pet to CCAS should be an absolute last resort - as an open intake shelter, euthanasia is a possibility. Remember, you are your pet's best advocate! Try speaking with family members or friends about taking your pet, add your pet to an online rehoming listing or contact local rescue groups.
Appointments are required to surrender animals to CCAS, and you will need to follow the instructions below before coming in person with your pet
You will need to complete the following before an appointment can be made with CCAS:
Submit the Owner Surrender Request form
You can fill this out via your browser or on your phone via the QR Code below.
Reach out to the various local rescue groups located here to see if they’re able to take your pet
List your pet on at least one rehoming listing before your appointment with CCAS. Here are a few options:
Once above has been completed, if we can take your animal, someone from CCAS will contact you to discuss your pet’s information and will then schedule an appointment to discuss the timeframe for intaking your animal.
We respect the difficult decision owners are making when deciding to surrender a pet, and understand it is sometimes unavoidable. We will work with you to find the most appropriate outcome for you and your pet.
CCAS is an open intake facility, meaning we take in any pet that needs shelter or care regardless of age, medical status, or behavior. Because of this, euthanasia is sometimes the most humane outcome for some animals.
CCAS is located at 7211 Sallie Mood Drive, Savannah, GA 31406.
